"Jazz Standards & The Great American Songbook... For Non-Musicians"

Watch-when-you-like Video Seminar (+ Bonuses)

Are you a jazz fan looking to deepen your knowledge about your favourite genre? Join us for a 'watch-when-you-want' video seminar (+ bonuses!) on the history of the Great American Songbook, hosted by British jazz saxophonist Sam Braysher.

We all know that there is so much more great music out there than we could ever hope to listen to...

Countless classic albums from the 1940s onwards, and hundreds of new ones arriving each week!

But rather than blindly trying new albums - or sticking with a handful of favourites - how can you become a more astute listener or collector of jazz?

One solution is to learn more about the history behind the music.

And, specifically, the songs that helped propel these artists to greatness!

In this Jazzfuel seminar, we'll be diving into the story of Jazz Standards and The Great American Songbook to help you dive deeper into the best of jazz.

What are jazz standards and why do they matter to me as a listener?

When it comes to jazz tunes, "standards" and the Great American Songbook are one direct connection between the music of artists such as Miles Davis in the 1950s to the next big thing out of New York in the 21st Century.

Don't believe me?

Put on that classic version of Miles Davis playing "If I Were A Bell" alongside the 2010 recording by Gerald Clayton playing the same tune.

60 years apart, but sharing the same history.

And that is by no means an isolated example. There are hundreds of songs which started out their lives the same way, in the early 20th Century, and still impact jazz fans around the world today.

"I'm Not A Musician"

This seminar requires no musical training!

We're not talking about chords and rhythms; we're talking about the story of the Great American Songbook and how to gain a deeper understanding of jazz from it!

The term 'Jazz Standards' covers a huge range of songs that have become famous in the jazz community over the last 100 years and enshrined in many of the greatest albums of all time.

Whilst some are composed by jazz musicians themselves, many started out their life in a different style, before being incorporated into what we now call The Great American Songbook.

But where do these songs come from, how did they enter the jazz musician's repertoire and who wrote them?

If you're interested to broaden your knowledge on some of the most famous jazz songs of all time, join London saxophonist Sam Braysher for a video seminar on the topic.
